Royal United Hospitals (RUH), Bath

The RUH ICU admits approximately 1000 patients per year with 85% as emergencies, including critically unwell children. Our patient cohort is a 60% medical – 40% surgical split with a mean age of 61, average LOS 2.7 days and SMR 0.93.  Since December 2024 we have moved to a brand-new ward, B36, which has a 16 bed capacity across a number of negative, neutral and positive pressure ventilated rooms.

Our unit is staffed by 2 consultants and 3 resident doctors (2 SHO, 1 SpR) as a minimum, 7 days a week. We offer multiple training opportunities throughout the week including radiology meetings, ICU follow up clinic, FUSIC club, ICM teaching aimed at our resident doctors and management / leadership opportunities for our more senior trainees.
